CHEDINGTON CHEDINGTON VILLAGE ST 40 NE 11.11.66 2/183 St James's Church - II
Parish Church. 1840-1, by R Carver of Taunton. Organ chamber, Baptistery, south porch added by G Vialls. Altogether: Nave, Chancel, South Porch, Baptistery (west end), South Vestry, Organ Chamber. Ham stone ashlar walls with a chamfered plinth. Slate roof with stone gable-copings. Stone bell-cote at west gable with a pinnacle over. Cross at east gable. Nave, of 4 bays, separated by buttresses. 2-light Perp-style windows. East window, of 3 lights with curvilinear tracery. Loop-hole-cross over. Baptistery, lower with diagonal buttresses, 2-light stone mullions with Perp tracery. Labels have foliage stops throughout, South porch with 3-centred arch and moulded jambs. Label with angel-stops. Stone gable- coping with cross at apex. Scallop-shell motif above doorway. 2-leaf plank door. Interior: fittings removed. Chedington Church is now redundant. Source: RCHM Dorset I, p89(1).
