Details

ELTON GRANTHAM ROAD SK73NE (south side) 3/40 Chipsholm 25.9.79 - II Former lodge now house. Dated 1842. C20 addition. Ashlar. Slate roof. Central lateral stack supported below the eaves by a well carved mask-corbel. Tall ornamental octagonal flue. Ornamental bargeboards. T-plan. Two storeys. Tudor style. Two-bay front. Gabled porch to right with pointed arch and hood mould, and to left a 2-light window with Tudor-arched lights, ornamental glazing and a square hood mould with figures as stops. Above this window is an elaborate coat of arms with raised letters reading: 'AVI NUMERANTOR AVORUM'. C20 addition to right. The left return is of 3 bays, the right one breaking forward and gabled. 2-light windows as front but with figure-head stops to the hood moulds. Single light to ground floor bay 2 and later C20 casement window above. Date in ornamental raised figures to left. In the return of the gable a 1st floor chimney breast is corbelled out on 2 finely carved figure heads, and has tall, finely carved, octagonal, paired flues. Coat of arms in rear gable apex. Interior: not inspected.
