6/59 Orangery attached to north west of Dodington House G.V. I
Orangery. Designs dating from 1799 show curved orangery linking Dodington House (q.v.) to Church of St. Mary (q.v.) by James Wyatt. Limestone ashlar with glass roof. 5-bay curved wing has pilaster to full height between each bay, cornice and blocking course, each bay has large cross window, 8 panes in lower sections, 2 in upper sections; terminal pavilion broken forward has central window as on wing, similar pilaster to each side and side lights, 4 panes in lower sections, one in upper sections, cornice and blocking course, west elevation of pavilion as at front; C20 glass roof with cupola over pavilion. Rear rendered above single storey attached block with arcade of 6 blind round-headed arches, window with glazing bars in upper section of arch to left, containing corridor behind orangery; cornice and blocking course to upper wall. Interior: cast iron gallery on rear wall with cast iron panels with intersecting struts; raised stone flower beds with recessed panels to fronts; door at rear giving access to rear of Dodington House (q.v.) and glass doors to full height with side lights at east end of wing giving direct access to House; black and cream stone floor.
