6/69 Barn about 12 metres north of Stables

Barn, originally smaller building probably for estate offices, enlarged for barn accommodation. Early C19, enlarged later C19 with later alterations. Coursed limestone rubble with stone dressings and long and short quoins, right return in limestone ashlar, corrugated iron hipped roof with brick stack. South east front has plinth, central high cart entry with timber lintel, former head of window and keystone incorporated in stonework under eaves, small fixed light with timber lintel and blocked door to left, lower cart entry with timber lintel and doorway in plain stone reveal to right; band course, at first floor a 6-pane sash to left and similar (blocked) window to right in stone surrounds, to right an unglazed lunette in stone surround, corner pilaster to right, cornice. Left return has plinth, arcade of 3 round-headed arches with voussoirs, central arch blind, 6-panelled door to right, double doors to left, each with glazing bars in upper section, band course returned, 3 blind rectangular windows above, cornice. Right return has plinth, arcade of 3 blind round-headed arches, each with band course set within, outer 2 arches open above band course; band course, 3 blind rectangular windows, 2 mortices in stonework, corner pilasters, cornice. Rear has 3 bays to right divided by straight joint with quoins, showing extent of original building; ground floor right has canted bay with 2 sashes and central door with overlight, all with keystones, band course, 3 blind rectangular windows, cornice; to left, door with timber lintel, band course, 2 similar blind windows irregularly spaced and cornice. Interior: 5-bay C20 roof, dividing wall to left of cart entry (formerly external wall) with similar arcade of 3 arches, 2 to right blocked, to left with C20 door inserted, band course and 3 similar blind windows above; brick heads to inner arches at right return and brickwork above bandcourse level. Entrance front of original building formerly to north west. Included for group value.
