Mausoleum in north-east part of former burial ground of Seamen's Hospital TQ 3877 26/382A

2. 1749. Small, 1-storey, 3-bay building. Multicoloured stock brick. Stone cornice and blocking course. Central open pediment. 3 finely-gauged round brick arches, the centre larger, with stone spring band. The left archway is an entrance, the others unglazed windows. Stone plinth. Rear elevation has 2 similar arches and flight of steps down to vault, now sealed. Cartouche in pediment of front bears inscription "5th July 1749. John Meriton Pensioner was ye first Man Buried in this Ground" Many C19 memorial tablets attached to walls.
