II

Very fine mid C17, double-pile farmhouse. Local soft red brick, hipped slate
roofs with two symmetrical plain brick chimney stacks. Two storeys with attics.
Each facade is of three bays and is similar except in detail. High brick plinth,
moulded brick band between the floors, eaves cornice with saw-tooth and dentil
brick bands, brick pilasters at quoins and on either side of central doorway
in north and south facades. North facade has five replacement early C19 hung
sash windows with glazing bars in moulded wooden frames at both floor levels.
The main entrance has a flat canopy and rectangular fanlight with a six
panelled door.

The two north facing rooms each have original moulded stone chimney pieces
with shallow four-centred arches similar to two rooms at first floor. The room
to the east has C18 raised and fielded panelling complete with doorway to panelled
entrance lobby. Pine panelling to room to west is introduced. Centrally
positioned dog-leg staircase has chamfered newel posts with shaped finials,
flat-moulded balusters, and moulded handrail. Entrance to the stairs is through
a round-headed arch supported on scroll brackets with a central, shaped drop
finial repeated in a double arch at first floor level. Stop-chamfered beams to
all rooms with fine cross-beams and ceiling-joists in the kitchen which has a
large cooking hearth. Internal partitions timber-framed.
