TQ 2679 NE CITY OF WESTMINSTER EXHIBITION ROAD, SW7 (west side) TQ 2679 SE No 29 (including No 1 94/6 85/6 Lowther Gardens) (formerly listed as Nos 1 and 2 5.2.70 Lowther Gardens) GV II Pair of houses. Circa 1877-8. J J Stevenson. Red brick, some carved; steeply pitched, red tiled roof. Picturesque composition in the Queen Anne manner on what was originally an island site, with all sides of architectural interest. Three storeys, attic and basement. To Prince Consort Road six windows wide, with two outer bays to either side under gables; entrance in third bay from left with steps beneath balcony, comprising two segmental arches surmounted by balustrade. Sashed windows, segmental to ground floor, square above. Small panes and timber glazing bars. Elaborate cornice above first floor with "pie" motifs and fluting in cut brick. Second floor windows with fine cut brick split pediments. Dormers. Tall chimneys. Much ornamental carved brickwork. Sweetness and Light; Mark Girouard.
