GV II
One of a group of 3 mortuary chapels (qv) built to serve Lancaster Cemetery, which was opened in 1855; for Roman Catholics. By Edward Paley. Coursed squared sandstone with ashlar dressings and slate roof. Gothic Revival style. Rectangular plan with a narrow central gabled projection to the north and with a gabled porch to the south. There are diagonal buttresses at the corners, and a continuous string course. To each side of the porch in the south wall is a single lancet window with a hoodmould. There are 2 similar windows in the north wall, and a single window in the gable wall of the north projection. The east and west gables are coped, the eastern one with a cross finial, and both gable walls contain 2 lancet windows.
