Church Farm Cottage
GV II
House. First half of C16 with later alterations. Timber framed and plastered under a thatched roof. 1½ storeys. 3-cell form, different origins. 3 windows, C20 2-light small-paned casements. 2 eyebrow dormers with single-pane 2-light windows. Lobby entrance: mid C20 gabled porch with 8-panel door. Internal stack, a later insertion, with small probably C19 shaft. Interior shows evidence for considerable alteration and original layout unclear. Widely-spaced studs, arched wall braces passing through the floor level. To right of stack, one bay of square chamfered oak joists and another of irregular joists. To left, a bridging beam about one metre from chimneybreast shows evidence for studs framing a timber flue; this beam supports a later ceiling of square pine joists. Roof not examined.
