TQ 2980 NE CITY OF WESTMINSTER GREAT PULTENEY STREET Wl 70/53 Nos 36 to 40(consec.) 14.1.70 GV II Row of terrace houses. c. 1719-20. Brown brick with stucco ground floors, No 39 entirely stuccoed, slate roofs. 4 storeys and basements. Each front 3 windows wide. Doorways to the left except for No 36. Doorcase with consoles and cornice hood to No 36. Doorcase with consoles, enriched pulvinated frieze and dentil cornice to No 37. Wooden Doric column doorcase with triglyphs to sections of entablature below open pediment and semicircular fanlight to No 38. Doorcase with consoles and cornice hood to No 39. No 40 has square headed doorway in stucco architrave, rectangular fanlight and 6 panel door; early C19 shop window with dentil cornice and inswept frieze. Sash windows, glazing bars reinstated, flush framed to Nos 36 and 40; revealed to rest, those of No 39 with stucco architraves. Brick bands over 2nd floor; parapets with copings. Nos 37 to 40 retain elements of original panelling to entrance corridors, stairwells and ground and 1st floor rooms, cut string staircases with turned balusters etc. Survey of London; vol XXXI
