House. Circa early C17; altered and extended C19; altered C20. Plastered cob. Thatched roof with gabled and half-hipped ends, south pitch re-clad in cedar shingles. Axial and gable-end stacks with tall brick shafts.
PLAN: 3-room and through-passage plan with large inner room to east with kitchen fireplace in gable-end stack, central hall with fireplace in axial stack backing onto wide through-passage now blocked at rear and with staircase at back; lower west end room was incorporated circa C18 or early C19 into outbuilding wing extending to rear, now converted into the house accommodation. Kitchen seems to have been re-sited in the inner room.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 4-window south front with C20 2-, 3-, and 4-light casements with leaded panes; hall window replaced by C20 French window approached by steps; through-passage doorway to left of centre with C20 door. Rear [north] facing road has four C19 3-light casements with glazing bars and tall C20 lancet as stair window on right; projecting wing on right with half-hipped end.
INTERIOR: Inner room has chamfered cross-beam with run-out stops and exposed unchamfered joists and large fireplace with chamfered timber bressumer with run-out stops and brick oven. Partition between inner room and hall replaced. Hall has replaced axial beams and fireplace with chamfered timber bressumer with mason's mitre to chamfered timber jamb on right, left jamb replaced. Wide through-passage blocked at rear and with C20 stairs. Lower west end room remodelled. Some old plank doors on first floor. Roof ceiled but straight principals exposed. The roof trusses of rear wing have principals crossed at apex.
Although altered, the north elevation of this C17 house is hardly affected by C20 alterations.
