Details

MOLLAND WEST MOLLAND LANE SS 72 NE 14/99 Shippon with garden wall adjoining - to south approximately 10 metres to to north of-West Molland Barton GV II Shippon. Probably mid to late C19. Coursed stone rubble with gable-ended Welsh- slate roof. Plan: Long rectangular-plan range. The building faces onto a farmyard to south and backs onto the lane to north. Exterior: 2 boarded loft doors to north with wooden lintels and small ground-floor access hatch to right with wooden lintel. Right-hand gable end has ground-floor C18 3-light wooden mullioned window to left and C18 2-light wooden mullioned window to right, both with wooden lintels and internal wooden shutters with strap hinges. Left- hand gable end has 2-light wooden window to left with internal wooden shutters and inserted boarded door to right. Rear has 3 boarded stable-type doors with wooden lintels and the C20 casement with wooden lintel, formerly doorway (see straight joints below). 1-storey lean-to to left. Short section of C18 roughly squared and coursed stone garden wall joining south-west corner of shippon with north-east corner of West Molland Barton (q.v). with doorway in south end. Interior of shippon not inspected. This is a curious building of uncertain function but probably a shippon. It is unusually wide and only has loft doors on the north side, probably so carts could be loaded or unloaded from the lane.
