Details
NORTH MOLTON SS 72 NW 13/120 Barn with horse-engine house and - shippons to right approximately 20 metres to north of North Lee Farmhouse GV II Barn with horse-engine house and adjoining shippons. Mid-to late C19. Uncoursed stone rubble with gable-ended Welsh-slate roofs, hipped over engine-house. Plan: L-shaped range, facing south. Barn to left (west) with cart entrance to rear, and polygonal ended horse-engine house to rear of right-hand end. Range of shippons adjoining to right (east) with wing returning to front at the right-hand end. Two-storey shippon ranges. Exterior: Two-leaf boarded door in south wall (opposite cart entrance to rear) of barn with flat stone-arched head. Also blocked doorway (C20 concrete blockway) with flat stone-arched head. Large boarded double doors to rear with wooden lintel and shallow porch consisting of flanking short sections of wall and pent roof over. Horse-engine house supported on 3 rectangular stone piers and with canted corners. Some openings blocked with stone and concrete blockwork. Adjoining L-plan range of shippons with boarded loft doors, ground-floor 2-light windows with boarded shutters and boarded ground-floor doors, all with stone segmental-arched heads. Interior: Six-bay barn roof with king-post trusses. Boarded hatch between barn and engine-house. Two trusses to engine house, with principal rafters and collars.
