Details
NORTH MOLTON EAST STREET (north side), SS 7429-7529 19/141 View Cottage - GV II Cottage. Late C18, with probably mid to late C19 addition. Rendered, probably mainly over cob. Gable-ended thatched roof. Stone stacks. Plan: Two-room central-entrance plan (kitchen to left and parlour to right), with end stacks (left-hand are external) and staircase to rear of entrance lobby. Lean-to addition at rear of left-hand end, possibly a later addition. Probably mid to late C19 wing projecting at rear of right-hand end. Two storeys, with one-storey lean-to. Exterior: Three bays; C18 boxed 12-pane glazing bar sashes (each leaf of 3 x 2 panes). Central late C18 six-panelled door (lower 2 panels beaded flush and upper 4 panels recessed) with beaded frame. C20 rustic thatched porch. Left-hand end stack with offsets and weatherings. Central first-floor glazing bar sash to rear, lighting top of stair. Interior: Complete late C18 and early C19 fixtures and fittings. Late C18 wall cupboards to left of front door, with boarded doors below and panelled doors above. Left-hand ground-floor room (kitchen) with ceiling beams, fireplace with plain surround, and late C18 wall cupboard in right-hand wall with 2 panelled doors and butterfly hinges. Right-hand ground-floor room (parlour) has late C18 or early C19 fireplace surround with reeded pilasters, and C18 square recess in wall to right. Small C18 cupboard in left-hand wall with H-hinges. Probably late C18 dog-leg staircase with closed string, stick balusters and square newel posts. Cupboard beneath stairs.
