Details

SP 0937 BROADWAY CP CHURCH STREET (east side) No 16 8/12 GV II House. C17, altered late C19. Squared limestone with stone slate roof. Two storeys with attic, four bays. Windows rebated and chamfered with mullions. On the ground floor are canted bay windows with two lights to the front and one light to each side. The first floor windows are of four tall lights with hoods, except for the window to the third bay, which is of two lights. Three attic dormers. The doorway, in the third bay, has a re-set early C18 timber doorcase with engaged Ionic columns, Corinthian entablature, and swan-necked pediment with carved foliage. Gables coped. Chimney in line with doorway and on left-hand gable. At the rear are two adjoining gables, with a third gabled wing at the left (south) containing a stair. The windows are rebated and chamfered. The middle gable has a plaque under the apex with initials and date "17874(?)". The right-hand gable has a re-set one-light window of C14 type under the apex, with tre- foiled ogee head. The left-hand gable has a blocked Cl7 attic window with elliptical head. Interior: southern ground floor room has moulded and stopped ceiling beam, possibly C16. In the first floor room above is an ovolo-moulded beam of C17 type.
