House. Probably early C19 with mid to late C19 alterations and addition. Rendered
(probably over cob) on stone rubble plinth. Gable-ended C20 asbestos slate roof.
C19 brick stacks to front range, C19 stone stack to rear.
Plan and development: Two-room plan, facing south. Larger room (probable former-
kitchen) to left, smaller room to right (probable former parlour) and central
entrance and staircase. Integral end stacks. Probably C19 two-storey outshuts at
rear and C19 wing projecting at right angles to rear, with integral end stack. Two
storeys.
Exterior: Roughly symmetrical front of 3 bays, the windows disposed to the right;
mid C19 boxed 4-pane sashes. Roughly-central C20 boarded door with C19 beaded pegged
frame, approached by 3 stone steps.
Interior: Largely complete early C19 fixtures and fittings. Entrance lobby with old
boarded door to left-hand ground-floor room and early C19 door to right-hand ground-
floor room with 4 moulded panels. Early C19 staircase. Left-hand ground-floor room
has open fireplace with early C19 beaded surround, 3 panels above with moulded wooden
cornice. Early C19 cupboard in rear room with two 2-panelled doors above and two 1-
panelled doors below. Right-hand ground-floor room has early C19 fireplace with
reeded architrave, frieze and moulded cornice. Early C19 cupboard in wall to right
of fireplace with two 2-panelled doors, cupboard below and moulded architrave. Also
early C19 cupboard in rear wall with two 2-panelled doors and moulded architrave.
Window seats. First-floor room and roofspace not inspected.
This cottage is part of a farmstead group, including Great Rapscott Farmhouse (q.v.)
and Little Rapscott (q.v.).
