HENTLAND CP HOARWITHY SO 52 NW 3/75 The Old Mill (previously listed as 10.3.81 Hoarwithy Mill)

GV II

Water mill, now house. Probably late C18 to early C19 with late C20 alterations. Sandstone rubble and sandstone dressings, Welsh slate roof and C20 sandstone stack. Rectangular plan with main elevation facing south. Three storeys and attic. South elevation has three windows, segmentally headed 2-light C20 casements; ground floor has two similar casements, one either side of two-leaved C20 door. To each outer side of ground floor windows is one low segmentally headed opening; top two floors are unfenestrated to this elevation except for small square attic light to right of centre said to be Home Guard insertion of c1940; to right-hand side of upper floors is a cast-iron drive- pulley with axle oriented north/south; centre of top storey has eroded date- plaque which is illegible. Attached to right-hand side by means of a low con- necting bay is a domestic range with segmentally headed windows and doorway to west. Interior of main range has remains of water wheel, crown wheel and pinion drive to north end, all in situ; five-bay main range with roof said to be trussed by collars supported by bolted angle struts.
