Details
EWELL 1. 1086 CHURCH STREET (North Side) Glyn House TQ 2262 22/311 II 2. 1859. Architect: Henry Duesbary. Pink brick. Slate roofs, except for tower which has red fishscale tiles. Tall, corniced brick stacks. 2 storeys, and basement with area. Moulded string. Angle buttress, topped by octagonal pinnacle, which is crenellated and has ogival cap, at left hand corner. Left hand part has 2 ranges of sashes with glazing bars, hoodmoulds over those on ground floor, gables slightly corbelled out on 1st floor. Central 3 storey tower with tent roof and wooden finial: 1 range of sashes with glazing bars: porch (with 1905 on rainwaterhead) with flight of ashlar steps to doorway, moulded brick Ionic 3/4 columns, full entablature with pulvinated frieze and modillions, which has double curve in it, and is surmounted by terracotta cartouche. Right hand part projects as single canted bay, sashes with hoodmoulds, and glazing bars on 1st storey, angle buttresses to ground floor. Wooden finial in roof. Early C20 extension to west. 2 storeys. Hipped slate roof with projecting wooden eaves cornice with modillions. Segmental bow on garden front. Sashes with glazing bars.
