Details
SP 1037 BROADWAY CP HIGH STREET(north side) 9/66 Knap House (formerly listed as part of Top Farmhouse) 30.7.59 GV II House. Circa 1900. Possibly by Prentice. Squared limestone with stone slate roof. Two storeys. Windows are rebated and chamfered with mullions. At the left is one bay which has 2-light windows. To its right is a canted bay window which has four lights with a transom at the front and two lights to each side, and has a dentilled cornice below a parapet with coping. Above under a gable are two 3-light windows with trasoms, and a carved initial "W". Set back at the right is a first floor link to East House (qv) which has a double-chamfered two-centred archway on the ground floor and a 4-light window above. Top Farmhouse was bought by Mr Wells, the inventor of Quaker Oats, circa 1900. The house has since been sub-divided and his extensions now form Knap House.
