GLATTON CHURCH ROAD TL 1486 (South-East Side) 13/15 Row of three tombstones and one chest tomb circa 9 metres east of the chancel to St Nicholas Parish Church

Tombstones and chest tomb. C18. Limestone. Identified w to z from south to north; w: shaped head with carved angel head enriched with drapes and fruit, oval plaque inscribed to William Row d.1767; x: chest tomb with moulded plinth and coping and shaped angle pilasters, panels inscribed to Endersby Yeardly d.1760 his sons and his daughter; y: segmental head, classical composition with columns flanking plaque inscribed to James Taylor d.1744; z: flat headed with shaped plaque finely inscribed to Mathew Stubbs d.1770 and Graces his wife d.1773. These tombstones and chest tomb are representative of a number of good C18 tombstones to the south and east of the Parish Church. Cottrell, D J Monumental Inscriptions 1722-1975 (1978). H.R.O.
