Details
GLANVILIES WOOTTON ST 60 NE 7/16 The Manor House 4.10.60 - II House, C17 and 1804. Earliest work probably for the Williams family, later work for James Dale of Blandford. Coursed rubble with ashlar dressings. Slate roofs, the earlier range being gabled and the later being a hipped gambrel. Brick stacks at rear of later range and at gable of earlier range. Main (later) facade: symmetrical, 2 storeys and attic, 3 bay. 3-light C19 sashes with glazing bars under flat stone arches. Central glazed wooden porch with double doors. Parapet with plain coping and moulded cornice below. 3 flat roofed dormers with 4-pane windows. Projecting C19 porch to right. Rear wing: 2 storeys, 3 window range. Ground floor has 2 4-light stone mullioned,hollow chamfered windows with square heads and returned labels. Above are 2 similar 3-light windows and a central C20 single light window. Some leaded lights. Central doorway with chamfered 4-centred head and continuous jambs. To the left is a moulded 4-centred arch gateway. Internally, the C19 range has moulded and decorated cornices, doorways and window openings and an original staircase. The C17 wing has a fireplace with ashlar quoins, a chamfered ceiling beam, reset panelling and an C18 niche (RCHM) "RCHM Dorset Vol III", p 97, no 3.
