Lodge to Culver House (qv). 1879, contemporary with new drive to Culver House and additions to the house for Edward Byrom by Alfred Waterhouse (dated plans). Waterhouse may have designed the lodge. Extension of the late C20. Volcanic snecked stone with plinth and freestone dressings, tiled roof gabled at ends, brick axial stack. The C20 extension is flat-roofed. Rectangular on plan with gable end to drive and entrance on outward side. 2 storeys. The elevation facing the drive has a single ground floor stone mullioned bay window, 4 lights to the front, 1 to each return, with chamfered mullions. A 3- light first floor mullioned window also has chamfered mullions. The entrance is on the right side with a plank front door under a tiled canopy caried on timber brackets with struts to the left, 2 first floor 1-light windows with chamfered architraves. The left side has two 2-light ground floor mullioned windows. Interior chimney-piece with Gothic Revival details to principal room. The lodge is associated with a contemporary gateway (qv).
