II

Farmhouse. Early C17, the cross-wing perhaps earlier. A 3-cell main range
with service cross-wing to west. Timber framed, mostly plastered, part of
service wing faced or rebuilt in colourwashed brick. Thatched roof. 2
storeys, attic in parlour cell only. North face of main range has mainly C19
casement windows and a mid C20 entrance addition with side door. To the
south, mainly mid C20 standard casements and a small gabled porch. Large
single-pane window in east gable end (facing road). Service wing has various
openings; one slatted window in north gable end. Each range has an internal
stack with rendered shaft. Modernised interior. Plain joists, set flat, in
ground floor rooms. Altered newel stair. Main members of frame visible on
upper floor but no studding. Cambered tie beam over hall chamber. Roof of
very regular form: clasped purlins, almost straight wind braces in end bays
only. Service wing much altered, especially on ground floor; stack is a later
insertion. Clasped purlin roof with a few re-used medieval rafters.
