HUMBLETON FITLING ROAD TA 23 SW (west end, off) 7/48 Church of Saint Peter 16.12.66 I Church. C13 nave, late C13 chancel, C14 west tower, C15 aisles, south porch of 1744. Ashlar and cobbles, brick to chancel, rusticated brick, rendered, to south porch. Slate roofs. 3-stage west tower, 4-bay nave with north and south aisles embracing tower, 2-bay chancel. West tower: diagonal buttresses, moulded strings. Slit windows to second stage, cusped Y-tracery to pointed belfry openings. Crenellated parapet. Pointed 3-light west window with Perpendicular tracery under hood-mould. Nave: moulded plinth, buttresses with offsets. Two 3-light windows to west , two 4-light windows to east, all with Perpendicular tracery under 4-centred arches. Four 2-light pointed windows with cusped Y-tracery to clerestorey. Pointed south door with continuous filleted roll mouldings. South porch: double-leaf boarded doors under segmental head with keyblock. Datestone over with names of churchwardens etc. Chancel: angle buttresses. Square-headed priests' door beneath 2-light square headed window. Square-headed west window of 3 lights with chamfered mullions. North chancel wall has lancet to west and pointed 2-light window with geometrical tracery under hood-mould with face stops to east. Interior: pointed double-chamfered tower arch with moulded capitals and bases. Similar lower tower arches to north and south aisles. Projecting semicircular stair-turret to nave: re-appears within tower at high level as a corbelled-out semicircular projection. Late C13 south arcade: pointed double-chamfered arches on octagonal piers and responds with moulded capitals and waterholding bases. Late C14 north arcade of similar arches on octagonal piers with moulded capitals and hollow chamfered bases. Pointed double-chamfered chancel arch similar to those of south arcade. North aisle: upper portion of formerly kneeling alabaster figure of William Thompson died 1637. South aisle: moulded corbels alternate with simple face-masks to support aisle roof upper wall-plate. Late C14 south door with wave-moulded boards and smaller ogee-headed wicket door to centre. Original strap hinges.
