House. Circa late Cl6/early C17 origins, probably rebuilt or extended at the left end, single-storey addition at right end. Whitewashed rendered cob with thatched roof gabled at ends, thatch replaced with corrugated iron to rear of ridge; front lateral projecting stack with set-offs and bread oven, single-storey addition with corrugated iron roof. The thatched range is single depth with a stair hall between 2 rooms. A thick internal cob wall and the eaves level suggest that the left-hand room is a rebuilding or extension. The late C16/early C17 plan was probably 2 rooms and a through passage with a projecting stair turret to the rear of the passage. C20 alterations have included the insertion of a straight stair in the passage adjacent to a late C20 bathroom which has altered the left-hand partition wall of the principal room. 2 storeys, single-storey addition at right end. Irregular 3-window front with large bread oven and C20 glazed porch to front door to left of centre into former passage; second doorway to right of stack. Fenestration of 2-light casements, 6 panes per light, 1 C17 2-light mullioned window above front door. Interior Open fireplace to lateral stack with C20 stone facing; deeply chamfered cross beam with step stops. A former plank and muntin screen between the right-hand room and passage was removed when the bathroom was added. Stair turret reused as part of bathroom. No access to roofspace at time of survey (1985) but principal rafters appear to be straight. Church Gardens is a good example of a small late C16/early C17 house with a good front elevation. Group value with Great Uppacott.
