Details
TREYFORD HOOKSWAY 4/75 Philliswood Farmhouse 27.3.87 - II Farmhouse now two dwellings. Late C16 or early C17 remodelled in C18. Timber-frame rewalled externally in knapped flint with brick dressings, west wall tile hung in part. Hipped plain tile roof. Three brick stacks: a linked double shaft ridge stack, a single shaft stack at east hip; both have corbelled cornices with a cogged brick course; a stack at corner of rear wing. L plan: 2 storeys to 3 unit range and rear wing at west, a single storey outshut at rear of east units under a catslide roof. Front elevation: a 2 course red brick plinth band, a projecting 5 course platt band at first floor level with chequer pattern of red stretchers and dark headers, red brick quoining to angles and jambs, soldier course heads to windows of alternating red and dark headers. Three windows on both floors: an early C19 wood casement to each unit, 3 lights at either end and 4 light in centre, all with glazing bars ( 2 x 3 panes to each light). Doorway to baffle entry between west and central units with C19 timber gabled hood on brackets. Interior: oak bridging beams with stopped chamfers, posts to rear wall of frame within outshut. Queen post trusses and through purlins, roof pitch raised on rear slope. An early C19 stair in each dwelling. Bread oven in east stack.
