Parish church. Originally a C13 church of which the lower
stages of the tower and the arch leading from the porch into
the nave survive. The church was almost completely destroyed
by fire in 1863 and rebuilt by W Mullions of London in Early
English style and the top part of the tower was added in 1889.
Built of coursed Isle of Wight stone rubble with ashlar
dressings. Tiled roofs and shingled spire. Chancel and nave
with north chapel and porch at the south west end of the nave
with tower above it. Tower of 3 stages, the lower 2 stages
C13, the bell stage of 1889. Buttresses. Bell stage has 2
arches to each face and crenellated parapet. Broached shingled
spire with iron weathervane. Entrance in base of lower arch
with double arches with hood moulding. Nave has 3 lancet
windows. West end has circular window with 2 lancets below.
Chancel is lower than nave with 2 trefoil-headed lancets. East
window has 3 trefoil-headed lancets. North chapel has 2 gables
with 2 windows with circular window above and 2 lancets below.
Windows have grisaille glass by Lavers and Baraud. Roof of
scissor-brace type. C13 arch separating tower from nave. C19
pulpit of Caen stone with figures of Christ and 4 evangelists,
alabaster cornice and marble columns. C19 trefoil-shaped font
of Sicilian marble. Mediaeval piscina and C19 double
Caernarvon arched sedilia. North chapel has 2 C19 family pews
with wood and ironwork infill.
