Details
GILMORTON MAIN STREET SP5688 1323-0/7/51 (North side) The Gatehouse GV II
House. Late C17, raised and altered in C19 and C20. Timber framed with plastered brick infil. Welsh slate roof. Ridge and left-hand end stacks. Originally a 3-unit plan, the right-hand unit rebuilt in C19. 2 storeys. Front: 3-window range; 3-light casements under segment heads throughout. Cogged brick eaves cornice. Right-hand section with lower roof line; wagon entrance (with double planked doors) and door under segment head. Left return with framing exposed: large panels with curved angle braces; queen posts, and V-struts above collar. Interior: other trusses survive, but ties cut through; ceiling beams and winder stair. Despite alterations this remains a fairly intact example of a C17 vernacular farmhouse.
