Inn. Dated 1679, altered C19. Painted rendered stone with plinth and painted mock timber framing; roof synthetic tile in imitation of stone slates, with rendered and brick chimneys. 3 low storeys; 4-window range. Plain stone surround to 4-panel door and plain overlight in third bay, and to 6-pane sashes: 2 to left of door, 3 to first floor, and one on second floor in third bay, all with surrounds painted in lines continuing to form mock timber framing. At right a full-height square bay window with 6-pane sashes, and plain sashes to return. All ground floor windows set low in wall. Inn sign hangs from large wrought-iron bracket at top of second bay. Roof has left chimney rendered and raised above adjacent building; central brick chimney. INTERIOR: steps down into building; ground floor altered. HISTORY: The fall from outside ground level probably reflects the position on the castle ditch where building encroachment seems to have begun in the early C17.
