GV II

Shop and house. Late medieval hall-house refronted in mid C19. Timber-framed building, the exterior clad in roughcast with stuccoed plinth. Tiled roof with 1 brick stack. 2 storeys and attics; 3 windows. Attic has 3 hipped dormers. 1st floor has 3 mid C19 sashes with marginal glazing and moulded architraves. Moulded cornice. C20 shopfront with 2 bows to right. Embedded in the base of the right-hand side of the shopfront is the medieval market cross of the town with a saint (or Christ) with arm raised in benediction. Interior not seen but excellent moulded crown post, massive timbering, early doors and C16 turned oak staircase reported. (Cozier P: Survey of buildings in West Malling: ITEM 6).
