Details
ASHOVER SK3563 HILLSIDE 1264-0/11/55 (North side) Hillside Cottage GV II House. Mid and late C18. Roughly squared and coursed sandstone rubble with slate roof. The right-hand gable of the main 3-storey house is coped with an ashlar chimney cap. Near the centre of the ridge there is a second chimney, with a third chimney at the left belonging to Over Asher (qv) Comprises a main house of 3 storeys and 2 bays, and a lower wing to the right of 2 storeys and 2 bays. Quoins and a change in stonework suggest that the right-hand bay of the main house is of the same build as the wing, but that its third storey and the left-hand bay are an addition. Except for the left-hand window on the ground floor (which is a C20 bow) the windows of the main house are of 2 lights with stone surrounds and flat-faced mullions. They have a mixture of sashes without glazing bars and timber casements. The doorway, between bays, has a stone surround (partly quoined). The right-hand wing has 2 windows of 2 lights on the 1st floor. At the left on the ground floor is a door surround similar to that of the main house, with a window with plain reveals to its right. At the right are timber garage doors. INTERIOR: not fully inspected. The middle room appears to have a blocked stone fireplace with jowelled jambs.
