NZ01NW THORNGATE 770-1/1/224 (East side (off)) Former factory building east of Mill Court
GV II
Factory building. Probably late C19, as additional building for former woollen mill which became North of England Chamois Leather Company factory which made industrial protective clothing 1935-83, especially for the steel industry and the Admiralty. Main building now Mill Court (qv). This building probably used for processing chamois leather. Roughly coursed rubble with pecked quoins and stone dressings; roof of graduated slates with wood ridge ventilator. One storey; 7 bays. Each bay has wide pecked stone lintel; boarded double doors in bays 1 & 2; 3 & 4 blocked; 5, 6 & 7 blocked with corrugated iron. Beam ends exposed below eaves. Roof has small central square chimneys with top band; to right of this, long, raised ridge ventilator with louvred sides. Right return has partly-blocked door and small offshut. INTERIOR: not inspected.
