LEZANT A.388 SX 37 NW (E) 5/40 Landue
- II
County house. Late C17, probably incorporating parts of an earlier building; later additions and alterations. Stuccoed slate-stone, hipped slate roof with deep eaves and ornamental cresting to ridge of main range and gabled dormers of right return. Basic L-plan with right return continuing to north to form projecting range. 2 storeys and attic with chamfered granite plinth and floor band. 9-window front, 8-paned horned sashes in moulded surrounds, those to first floor with labels. Central entrance; C20 glazed double doors under C18 semi-circular wooden hood with scrolled brackets. Rendered ridge stack with recessed blind panels to right. Parallel rear range has 3 two-light cinquefoil-headed windows with cavetto-moulded king mullions forming large 6-light window with label. Recessed narrow segmental- headed window above to left and tall window with Y-tracery lighting staircase. Detached former wine cellar is linked to projecting range (continuation of right return). Courtyard side of right return has cavetto-moulded granite mullion windows to both floors, including large 6-light one with king mullions to left of centre on ground floor. Most have leaded latticed casements, some with L-hinges. Bell directly below eaves to left of centre. Gabled dormers, also with leaded latticed casements, in middle of roof slope. Late C19 single-storey service range with prominent flat-roofed lantern projects at right-angles to left. Interior: Full inspection not possible at time of resurvey (January 1988). Has late C17 framed newel staircase with turned balusters to open string, moulded handrail and square newels. Ground-floor rooms of main range have plaster cornices and C19 marble fireplaces. Room in parallel rear range lit by large cinquefoil headed mullion window has C19 elaborately columned granite fireplace and decorated plaster ceiling probably also Victorian C19 cast-iron fireplaces to attics.
