Details

TG 20 NW PILLING PARK ROAD (south side) 4/612 26.2.54. Mousehold House. - II Large house, now flats and shop. C18 with additions by William Mear in 1820. Remodelled in 1969. Red brick hipped slate roof. 2 storeys to main facade; 5 first-floor windows symmetrical. Half-glazed double doors with side windows, pilasters and large segmental-headed overlight with glazing bars are set in a moulded architrave. 2 plain Tuscan pilasters and 4 Tuscan columns support a massive pedimented portico with an iron lamp hanging inside. 3-light window above door. Windows have sashes with glazing bars under slightly cambered gauged brick arches throughout. Modillion cornice. Small pedestal between the centre columns has an urn (broken). Garden front to right is of 3 storeys with centre and end pilasters to the C18 range. Tall ground-floor casements have louvred shutters. Aprons to first-floor window; yellow brick stringcourse. Early C19 bow-fronted wings to right and left each have 2 curved sashes, those on the right retaining their glazing bars. Left wing has tablet (reset): Lt.Colonel/Six R. Harvey/1821. Interior (not examined during re-survey) is noted as having panelling and moulded ceilings. The house now lies within a C20 development of maisonettes built in its grounds.
