DARTINGTON SX86SW 2/130 DARTINGTON HALL Lime Kiln about 480 metres E of Dartington Hall
II
Disused lime kiln. Circa early C19. Local limestone rubble. Built into bank with access at higher level at rear for loading. The front wall has a convex bulge, low parapet and a pointed arch opening to the swallow with a corbel stone at the apex. Inside the swallow is vaulted and the kiln opening at the back has been broken open a little. The circular kiln is open at the top and tapers towards the bottom, its internal walls are calcified. At the front of the kiln a stone rubble wall forms a semi- circular enclosure with an opening at the centre. Trees are growing on the wall top and on the top of the kiln. Situated by a disused quarry.
