2. Irregular group of 2-storey cottages formed out of the late C17 Crossley Hall. The conversion into separate cottages dates from the late C18 and early C19. Two-storeys, irregularly coursed sandstone "brick" and gritstone, flush quoins. Stone slate roof with saddlestones, shaped kneelers and C18/Cl9 corniced chimneys. Some chamfered mullions to former 5, 6 or 10 light windows, reduced to 2 or 3 lights, drip moulds. Other windows with square mullions, of circa 1800. Weathered string course. No 181 retains chamfered lintel doorway. Nos 193 and 195 form the western half of the hall, separated from Nos 181, 183 and 189 by garden wall to south containing a moulded stone architrave doorway. The recessed part, No 195, has a coursed gritstone ground floor with 2 light, former 4 light chamfered mullion window and a circa 1800 refacing in sandstone "brick" with square mullioned window to first floor. On the north side No 195 projects with 4 light square mullion small paned window facing east and passage entrance with 4 centred head leading through to south front. No 193 has a 2 bay front built out to south with flush quoins and thin "bricks", a late C18 addition originally forming 2 cottages. Two light square, mullion windows and squared jamb doorways, one blocked. North elevation has mullion and transom stair light with original glazing. Extending from the north-west corner is a Cl9 outbuilding range linking with the north barn. This has recessed portal to road and is dry walled. It is of C17 origin and may be a recasing and alteration of a timber framed barn. Six king post trusses and one arched brace. No evidence of wall posts, but aisled on north side.
