TQ 2880 NE CITY OF WESTMINSTER BROOK STREET W1 69/49 (south side) 24.2.58 Nos 69 and 71 (The Savile Club)

Two houses. Mid C19 reconstructed internally to form one mansion with No 69 remodelled and No 71 rebuilt by G R Trollope in 1880 and 1891. Stuccoed brick. Four storeys. Eight window bays in all. Basements and slated mansard attics. Ground floor of No 69 has banded rustication and vermiculated quoins; enclosed Doric columned porch to left with balustrade; segmental arched ground floor windows, rest flat arched with simple moulded surrounds. Main cornice and blocking course. No 71 has banded rustication to ground floor. First floor has broad rectangular bay window on brackets lighting ball room; both it and ground floor window have "Louis XV" waved glazing bars. Eared architraves and aprons to upper floor windows. Cornice etc continues that of No 69. Interior lavishly redecorated 1890-91 in "Louis XV" manner by W O Bowens van den Boyer of Paris possibly with some reset elements of boiseries.
