GV II

Row of 3 cottages. Probably mid to later C18; altered. Coursed squared sandstone, composition tile roof, stone and brick chimneys. Double-depth except No.42 which is almost triangular on plan, the rear wall canted sharply back; all single-fronted. 2 low storeys, 1+1+1 windows; all have the doorways to the left, with simple rectangular lintels and set-in wooden doorcases, a board door to No.38, a C20 door to No.40, and the door to No.42 loose at time of survey (1991); each has one square window on each floor: a 2-light casement and 2-light sliding sash at No.38; C20 glazing at No.40; and 2-light casements at No.42. Ridge chimney and gable chimney to right. Rear: No.38 has small-paned sliding sash at 1st floor; otherwise, altered. Forms group with No.36 adjoining to the right (qv).
