KIDLINGTON CHURCH STREET SP4914 (East side) 10/81 Nos.54-58 (even) and attached walls and outbuilding
GV II
Two houses. Late C18. Coursed limestone rubble; gabled concrete tile roof; C19 brick end stacks, and ridge stack of stone finished in C18 brick. 4-unit plan. 3 storeys; 3-window range. Timber lintels over early C19 beaded 6-panelled (2 glazed) door to right of centre, and late C19 plank door to left. Timber lintels over late C19 three-light casement with glazing bars to right and two early C19 four-over-8 pane sashes; C20 windows above, withe early C19 six-pane sash on first floor and two C19 two-light casements on second floor. C19 outshuts to rear. Interior not inspected but likely to be of interest. Subsidiary features; approximately 8 metres of C18 wall, of limestone rubble with stone slate coping, attached to C18 outbuilding of limestone rubble with corrugated iron roof and collar-truss roof with butt purlins inside. To rear of outbuilding, circuit of C18 and early C19 garden walls enclose garden approximately 25 metres by 60 metres to rear of No.60 (Grove House) (q.v.): of coursed limestone rubble with stone slate coping, and early C19 rat trap bond to front. Walls used for fruit growing: Kidlington was noted for fruit growing especially apricots.
