GV II
House. C16 with C19 alterations. Large, timberframed, 2 storeys, plastered farmhouse facing W, with panelled pargetting. Very steep old red tile roof, hipped with shaped rafter feet overhanging at eaves. Large central chimney one third from N end. External gable chimney at S end off-centre towards front. 3-unit plan, with parlour at N end and 2 rooms axially divided at S end. Cross-passage with rear door in use and chimney at upper end of hall. Passage formed along front wall with door now opposite stack and stair. 4-light diamond mullioned unglazed window with shutter groove on 1st floor of E side near N end. Timber frame temporarily exposed in 1982 showed close-studding on E wall with eaves of S part of house formerly lower than N part. 4 windows along W front. C19 3-light, flush sash windows generally, with 2-light window over door with C19 pilastered surround and scrolled trusses supporting flat hood. Interior has heavy jowled bay-posts, chamfered ceiling beams, exposed square- section joists and, in roof, surviving wattle and daub panel above tie beams of 4-bay queen post clasped purlin roof with curved wind braces. Fine C17 decorative panelled door re-used for S bedroom. 2 C18 plain 2-panelled doors C18 6-panel raised and fielded door to SE room on Ground floor.
