STOKE CLIMSLAND LIDWELL SX 37 SE 8/157 Lower Lidwell Farmhouse -

GV II

Farmhouse, now house. Late C17 incorporating parts of an earlier building; later additions and alterations. Roughly coursed slate-stone with granite quoins; slate roofs, artificial to front of main range. Complex plan with various additions to C18 core. 2 storeys. 3-window front to main range; tripartite glazing bar sashes to left and right on first floor (latter horned) with blind opening to centre. Ground floor has tripartite sash to left and 5-light C19 casement to right of central 4-panel door, all openings with wedged voussoirs to segmental heads. Internal end stack with red brick shaft to right and external end stack with red brick top to left. Slightly set-back early C19 addition to right with horned glazing bar sash to left and paired plate-glass sashes to right on first floor had boarded double door to centre on ground floor, all openings with wedged heads like those on ground floor of main range. This early C19 range seems to truncate an apparently earlier gabled range (dairy) running at right-angles to rear. Back wall of main range has open lean-to with monolithic granite columns over segmental-pointed chamfered doorway. 2-storey addition to right. Outbuilding attached to left gable end of main range has quartzite blocks to back wall. Interior: Right ground-floor room of main range has large open fireplace with massive granite lintel. Staircase has some C18 balusters to first floor (possibly not in situ) with turned decoration to middle. Slate shelves to dairy and collar truss roof to outbuilding attached to left gable end of main range.
