STOKE CLIMSLAND LIDWELL SX 37 SE 8/155 Higher Lidwell - GV II
Shown on OS map as Higher Lidwell Farmhouse. Farmhouse, now house. Late C17 with later additions and alterations. Roughly coursed slate-stone rubble with granite quoins and end stack; slate roof. 2 storeys. Four C20 casements directly below eaves and 2 to ground floor with granite lintels inserted late C20, one to either side of roughly central half-glazed door under C20 gabled porch. Another half-glazed door under lean-to hood to far left. Integral end stack to right with drips and cloam oven projection. Rear has 3-light chamfered flat-faced mullion window to ground-floor right and cill or lintel of mullion window reused to centre first-floor window. External lateral stack with cloam oven projection. Interior: Much altered in late C20 but retains 3 original joists to right ground-floor room, which has large inglenook fireplace with wedged voussoirs and keystone. Bread oven of well-constructed granite blocks to right and cloam oven to left. Smaller fireplace to back wall also has cloam oven. Steeply-pitched 7-bay collar truss roof with cambered collars and original trenched purlin to front visible in roof space.
