House. C16, chimneystack and floor over hall inserted in C17,
small single storey C19 rear extension. Tall, timberframed, of 2
full storeys under half-hipped thatched roof, facing E. Exposed
timbers with plaster between, to upper storey of front and
weatherboarding below, down to low red brick plinth. Gable ends
weatherboarded. Rear wall plastered on 1st floor with
weatherboarding below. Red brick rear wing with gabled red
pantiled roof. Slender square red brick chimney shaft set
diagonally with recessed corners, one third distance from S end.
3-unit lobby entrance house with stair rising in lobby against
chimney. Axial chamfered beams at different heights suggest the
middle room was formerly open to the roof. Bay posts visible
outside show the chimney in one narrow bay with one bay on left
for the parlour (S) and two on the right for the hall and the (N)
service room beyond. Small 3-light diamond mullioned 1st floor
window in chimney bay on E and W. Small paned wooden casement
windows. Hall and parlour have only fireplaces. 4-centred,
arched, chamfered brick fireplace in parlour, and loft with
external gable door contrived in roofspace over bedroom in this
bay. Arched brace to N tie beam in bedroom. Hall has elaborate
bar-and-lozenge stops to axial chamfered beam, with fireplace
partly blocked and late C18 corner (NW) cupboard with shaped
shelves and panelled doors. N service room apparently not
divided. Present axial beam, carrying exposed joists, is
inserted. Stair possibly in the NE corner. Swept-jowled posts
and side purlin roof with bedrooms ceiled under collars. C19
corner cupboards and landing balustrade. A little-altered, C16,
house.
