2 attached houses now converted into 1 house. Circa early to mid C17, partly
remodelled in mid C19 and extended in early and late C20. Rendered stone rubble.
Rag slate roof with gable ends. Stone rubble chimney stack on left-hand gable end.
Axial and right-hand end stack with reused circa early C17 granite moulded caps on
later shafts with third similar stack in rear projecting wing on right.
Possibly originally 2 houses each with 2-room and cross passage plans or
alternatively one larger house which was considerably remodelled. Converted into 1
house with partitions removed, wing added to rear on right in 1907 (datestone) and
further wing added to rear left in late C20.
2 storeys 2:2-window fronts. The right-hand cottage is set forward and the masonry
in the left-hand cottage has been partly rebuilt with the right-hand side set
slightly forward. Left-hand cottage with asymmetrical 2-window front with 6-pane
sashes on ground and first floor and C20 door. Circa C17 first floor single-light
window opening in left-hand gable end with ashlar stone chamfered jambs, cill and
lintel each with straight cut stops. Stanchion bar and C20 glass. Right-hand
cottage with regular 2-window front with brick segmental arches and 6-pane sashes on
ground and first floors. Part-glazed C20 door.
Interior Left-hand range with complete set of circa early to mid C17 ovolo-moulded
ceiling beams with stops embedded in wall. C20 fireplace on left-hand gable end and
evidence of fireplace on right-hand completely blocked. First floor with circa
early-mid C17 corbelled granite fireplace with chamfered lintel and jambs with eroded
stops. Right-hand range with large fireplace on right-hand gable end with unmoulded
timber lintel and cloam oven. First floor fireplace with possibly reset chamfered
timber lintel with scroll stops. Roof timbers to left-hand range replaced in late
C20. Roof timbers to right-hand range not inspected.
