SE 01 SE MELTHAM ROAD Marsden 5/318 Steep Farmhouse and Barn -

Mid C18 (with modern extensions). Farmhouse and barn. Rendered. Barn is of coursed rubble and hammer dressed stone with quoins. Pitched stone slate roof (bitumen covered). Moulded footstones. 2 storeys. South elevation: (House). Lights to ground and first floors are possibly former 2-light stone mullioned windows (chamfered and recessed). Stone plaque reads J C - - J C S C 1 - - 3 and once read: 1 7 7 3

West elevation: Basement; Entrance from yard has curved lintel. Roof is vaulted. Ground floor; One 6-light stone mullioned window (chamfered and recessed) (with King mullion). First floor; One 3-light stone mullioned window (chamfered and recessed). East part of house was formerly a lean-to extension with catslide roof with various 3-light stone mullioned windows, but now is altered with modern flat roofed 2 storey extension. Barn: Large central doorway with semi-circular arch (possibly rebuilt) with quoins (part blocked). Upper part of barn rebuilt. East elevation of barn has small central doorway with deep lintel and quoins (part blocked).
