Wayside shrine. Late C19. Of coursed squared rubble gritstone,
with a stone slated roof covering, lead apex apron, and a cross
finial. Small circular building rising from plain plinth. Single
doorway, without joinery, with plain pegged frame, below sturdy
timber lintel. Simple breather lancet to right of entry. Conical
roof structure, with stone slates oversailing the wall head to
discharge water. Interior. Decorative tile panel set against wall
comprised of twelve tiles, painted to depict St Joseph and the
infant Jesus, the tiled panel is set in a plain stone frame. The
panel is surrounded by a stone tablet inscribed with letters, and
the date 1889. The shrine is said to have been erected to the
memory of a Spanish governess resident at Errwood Hall, which
lies to the south of this site.
