Prestbury Railway Tunnel

Railway Tunnel entrance arch: 1845 by G.W.Buck for the Manchester and
Birmingham Railway. Ashlar buff sandstone. The centre of facade
projects forward from the rubble revetment walls and has raking
rusticated quoins. It contains a horseshoe shaped arch which has a
cyma moulded rusticated surround and supports a modillion cornice and
a solid parapet.
The northern arch is simpler and in brick but the keystone has the
date, and the company's initials.
