2. Formerly "Westmount". Early C19. This was one of the principal "seats of the Gentry" in pre-Victorian Ryde. Two storey and attic. Original portion five windows. Coursed stone cut in imitation of bricks with ashlar quoins and window dressings. The outer window bays project slightly, giving the effect of wide pilasters, and contain roundheaded windows on the ground floor. Stringcourse above each floor. Wide overhanging eaves interrupted in the centre where the front wall is carried up to form an attic storey containing one round-headed window with dentilled cornice and pediment over this attic portion. Glazing bars intact. In front of the centre portion is a tetrastyle Ionic portico with dentilled pediment over. The garden front is faced with ashlar but has a semi circular stuccoed portico (now glazed) of four Ionic columns with cornice and iron railing over. Wings added on other side of the original house to house parts of the School.
