Details

FARNINGHAM HIGH STREET 1. 5280 TQ 5467 9/91 1.8.52 Farningham Bridge II GV 2. The north parapet has a tablet on it recording:- "This bridge was built by order of the Court of Quarter Sessions. 1773. Edward Grey Arch." The south parapet has a tablet recording: - "Repaired by the County and widened by public subscription. 1833. John Whichcord Arch." (Whichcord was the County Surveyor of the time). It was necessary to keep the bridge in good repair as it carried the main London to Dover road on the line of the Roman Watling Street. The north side is of red brick and consists of 4 segmental arches with pointed cutwaters between. Stone parapet over. The south side is of buff bricks and consists of 3 segmental arches. Stone parapet over, the inside of which is of red brick.
