No 248 (St Marylebone 15.6.72 Grammar School).
GV II
School. C.1856 with C20 additions. W G and E Haberson. Red brick with blue brick diaper work and ashlar dressings. Tile and lead roofs. Gothic Revival style. Polygonal 2-storey library range to east with range of 3 storeys and half basement with turret and attached porch to west. Library range: pointed 3-light traceried windows between buttresses. Former open arcade below, now closed. Embattled parapet. Steeply-pitched roof surmounted by lantern. West range: flight of steps to porch: pointed doorway with inscription 'Philological School AD 1792' over. Asymmetrical west range with 2 gables, 2-storey bay with mullioned transom window to left. Otherwise 2-light pointed mullion and transom windows with trefoils in the heads. String courses at floor levels. Turret has belfry with ogee lights and spirelet with lucarnes. Stained glass to library. Interior: panelled walls and ceiling to headmaster's study. Staircase with wrought iron handrail.
